Narcissus

I recieved this narcissus in a mixed bag with no lables for any of the bulbs, I have mixed feelings about it as from a distance it looks pretty but up close I feel it has been manipulated and deformed probably by mankind to create something new, a squashed trumpet with distorted petals sticking out, how can anyone do this to a beautiful flower like the Daffodil. I just wonder if anyone has any idea what it’s name is.

Donna very cleverly found this narcissus, it is called Bridal Crown, the description given sounds just like mine, this year they have flowered early as I dug the clump up last year then didn’t get them replanted so I put them in pots to have indoors, thank you very much Donna, I really appreciate your help, RHS Bridal Crown.

  1. Frances this looks like one of the double daffodils they have created…some are not very pretty but this one I think is at least in your pictures…I recognized it and found what I think it is, Bridal Crown found here….

  2. I received one like this in a mixed bag some time ago. I’m with you daffodils don’t need ‘improving’, Christina

  3. Very intriguing, Frances – as you say, it’s hard to decide whether it’s likeable or not

  4. Nope, that is just wrong. Way too fussy, but there again, I am not a fan of straight double daffs either. At least you know what it is now!

  5. Frances, they are strange but as Donna says it certainly photographed well. I planted some doubles in the Autumn, not really sure why as in the past I have always said I was not fond of them. Ah well, lets see if I tear them to shreds in a post that I may prepare, just developing buds at the moment.

  6. Okay I’ll admit I kind of love this flower. I received some in a mixed bag some years ago as well and the peek-a-boo effect of the yellow hiding behind the white frills makes me smile. But then I’m not a huge fan of big trumpets on daffodils.
