For a few years now I have chosen a word to help guide me through the year, the first 2 years this worked well, Now and Edit gave me guidance and helped me form some good habits which I still have.
Last years trio of play on one sound of word has not proved to have worked, I chose sow, sew, so.
Well I sow seed, watch and weed but no seed grows.
I sew only utilitarian items like new curtains, my artistic textile muse is still asleep.
It was so (as intensifier) wet, dry, wet.
So on and so forth (continuing) so it rains and rains!
I only started thinking about a word for 2013 in the last few days and was even wondering after last years disaster whether to bother then ‘declutter’ came to me. For me it is a follow on from ‘edit’, I need to be strong and get rid of more things as I have just too much that has been accumulating all my life. I will never be a minimalist, but somewhere halfway between that and where I am now would be good.

I can totally understand declutter…I am hoping to get to more this year inside and outside…it is amazing what we accumulate that we no longer need. I always love your word Frances
thanks Donna, I was recently thinking of when I first set up in a home of my own (well rented flat) and reflecting how little there was and how easy to keep clean and tidy, Frances
After 55 years in our home, I know what semtimental keeping has done to clutter it. Declutter … I am working on it. Good luck to you. LOL Marion
thanks Marion, Frances
Oh no! you have just reminded me of what needs doing in that loft of ours. Happy New Year Frances.
happy new year Alistair, I have a large loft but thankfully I can’t get into very easily or mine would probably be full too, good luck, Frances
I think if I had a word for the year it would be ‘sort’ – lots of get on top of having avoided things for a number of years
I’m finding it really interesting how people chose words for each year and what their choices are. Simplifying, editing, decluttering seems a common theme lately. I wonder if there is something in the air prompting this? I’m a constant declutterer myself – boxes of books, bags of clothing, every few months I take away those things put aside and donate them. My hubby though manages to fill up every space I empty :)
oh Marguerite you sound a treasure, art and textile materials take up a fair bit of space, as Jodie works with wood I wonder if this making things has something to do with our collecting things, Frances
Hi Frances, i had to laugh because it was one of my final options too.. i ended up with Process… emphasis being on enjoying the doing and not worrying so much about the end result. But the first process thing I did was get rid of a bunch of things and I am only on shelf 3 in the studio… there are many more to go so I guess I am in the Process of Decluttering!
hello Jordi, a nice surprise hearing from you, I do drop in on your blogs from time to time to see whats happening and I love seeing your pets, process is a good word, the process of getting it done, Frances
Declutter is a great word. Definitely something I try to do on a regular basis inside my house and, when needed, in my garden. I once read that one should never be afraid to change, remove, or rearrange plants in a garden. There is real freedom in that philosophy!
thanks Deb, I agree re moving plants around, also some get too big and others reach the end of their life so rearanging is needed, as well as house and garden I sometimes think my thoughts could do with a bit of decluttering, Frances
Goodness, that is a challenging word, I wish you well with it!
thanks Janet, Frances
